Going through hard seasons

Seasons can be hard even when great things are going on.

The day I had my last son, the company I worked for announced a restructuring. When I came home from the hospital, I called into a conference call to learn more about what would happen for my team and myself. Throughout maternity leave I didn’t know if I’d have a job to go back to. Except, I got the opposite - I received a promotion that doubled my team when I returned to work. I was incredibly excited and grateful although it was a very hard season for me personally.

Right now, there are a lot of people feeling like this is a hard season. My last role was in supply chain. My supply chain peers are currently dealing with an immense amount of uncertainty. Things that could once be counted on to be the same aren’t.

When things feel out of control, focusing on the small things you can control helps.

What I would tell you:

  • This season is temporary

  • You’ve got this

  • You will get through this

  • You will look back on this as a time of tremendous personal growth

Think back on a time when you felt things were hard. Now remind yourself how you got through it.

How do you support yourself during this season?

During my hard season after my last child, I went to counseling. It helped me have a place I could unload all the things I was bottling up to just get through the days. I now provide this place for my clients. I just had a client last week say “I’m so glad that we had our call today. I feel so much better.”

Look for things that will help you get through this season that won’t leave lasting negative effects on your life.
