Fill your belief tank when looking for a new job

I had a client who was frustrated with their job. She wanted to find a new one but was hesitant as it involved what seemed like an overwhelming process. Even if you have been through the process before, your brain forgets and you go through the ups and downs of the thought roller coaster all over again.

  • There are no jobs out there for me

  • I don’t want to move

  • I’m not experienced enough

  • I’m scared of change

  • Ok there might be a job out there, but I don’t know really what I want

  • Maybe this one?

  • Maybe not...

  • Maybe that one?

  • But what if it’s not better than what I have now...

  • This one looks amazing! But I’m not qualified enough

  • Ok, I’ve just got to start applying, I have to at least try

  • Resume updated - it looks great!

  • Why haven’t they responded? It’s been weeks...

  • Maybe there was something wrong with my application. I’ll try a few more

  • Still not even an interview? They must have so many better applicants.

  • Please notice me.

  • I know I can do this!

  • I got an interview!

  • They didn’t want me.

  • I guess I’m just stuck here.

  • But I’m miserable here. I have to try again...

  • Ok, I’ll apply for just one more. But that’s it.

  • I got an interview and it went great!

  • Don’t get too excited… you know how this will go.

  • I can’t believe it, they want me!

Without refilling the belief tank every week at each one of these steps, it’s easy to see how we so often give up before we have achieved what we want.

Because she refilled that tank, this same client now has:

  1. More money

  2. Less stress

  3. Less hours

  4. And more flexibility in her role

How many times have you set a goal and then stopped before you reached it? Losing weight, stopping over-drinking, exercising, etc. You don’t quit because there is something wrong with you. You quit because of the sneaky thoughts in your brain that try to keep you right where you are.

Your brain tells you all the reasons you can’t do something because it knows the here and now is “safe”.

When you set a goal that you don’t know how you will reach, you have to overcome each and every one of those sneaky thoughts or subconscious beliefs that are holding you back.
